| Welcome
to "Stand Firm", a ministry to men who want to be reminded
that their righteousness before God is not based upon their
works/performance, but upon the finished work and performance of Jesus
Christ (Romans 4:5).
Each month, you will receive via e-mail a FREE newsletter that will
include short, concise devotional teachings from Gospel For Today
president, John Moneypenny, Sycamore Springs Community Church
pastor, Ted McMullen, Eel River Community Church pastor, Grant Miller, and others. Our
goal through this newsletter will be to help establish you in the gospel
message and in the grace of God so that you might be an equipped
defender of the faith.
There are plenty of men's ministries and well-meaning
brothers in Christ today (and throughout history) that have spent much
of their time and energy pointing out which actions, deeds, and
behaviors men ought to be or ought not be engaging in. We at Gospel
For Today Ministries agree that loving one another, forgiving one
another, being kind, patient, and merciful toward one another are all
profitable as we make our way through life on this planet. Let's treat
each other in a loving manner!
However, fulfilling all the "one another's"
does not, never has, and never will make a man righteous in the sight of
God. In fact, it is not our work at all that gains or maintains our
right standing with God. It is through Jesus' finished work 2,000 years
ago alone that a man is justified (Romans 5:1). Sadly, because of the
tremendous emphasis upon doing right, we have seemingly forgotten
much of the good news of how it was we were made right.
So, let's start acting like men by being anchored in
and defending the faith. For any real and lasting changes to occur in
our behavior, we must first be grounded in the core message of
the gospel. It is our confidence in the finished work of Jesus Christ
for our righteousness that will inevitably impact how we think and act.
The benefits then, both to ourselves and to those whom we love, will be
fruit that is born by the Spirit rather than through self-effort.
Brothers, we look forward to encouraging you in the
faith and being encouraged by you in the same!
Sincerely,
John
Moneypenny, President
